iPhone iOS and Apple WatchOS

The iPhone must have iOS 10.3 or later loaded to run Roland Alert. Likewise, the Apple Watch must have WatchOS 4.0 or later loaded. Follow Apples instructions to load iOS on your iPhone, and these instructions for the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Pairing

The kids Apple Watch must be paired to the kids iPhone. To pair the Watch follow Apples instructions. Or simply search the Internet for instructions.

Apple Watch Autopause

Make sure Autopause is turned off on the Apple Watch.

On your Apple Watch, go to Settings -> General -> Workout.

Turn off Autopause. You can also turn off Power Saving Mode from here too.

iPhone Allow Notifications

Allow Roland Alert to send you notifications. Notifications include alerts, sounds and icon badges. Accepting this will allow Roland Alert to display Strategies. You can configure these from your iPhone at any time. Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Roland Alert.

iPhone Allow Health Data

You may see up to 3 dialogs for this. One on the Apple Watch and up to 2 on the iPhone. It is important that you turn on the Heart Rate data for Roland Alert. This data is one of the biometric identifying factors used to monitor for an event.

To set this from your iPhone go to the Health app. Tap the Sources tab button, then tap Roland Alert and turn on the Heart Rate data.

iPhone Workout Power Saving Mode

Turn off the Workout Power Saving Mode. On your iPhone go to the Watch App. Tap on My Watch tab button then tap General. Scroll down to the Workout Power Saving Mode option and turn it off.

Frequently Asked Questions

My kids iPhone only has WiFi access, will the app still work?

Yes! Roland Alert will work while the iPhone is connected to WiFi.

How far away from the Apple Watch can my kids iPhone be?

Traditional Bluetooth range is around 30-50 feet, but your Apple Watch has an advantage if your iPhone is connected to WiFi. When you connect to a WiFi network, your Apple Watch will remain in contact with your iPhone as long as they remain connected to the same network.

Roland Alert won't install on my Apple Watch

Verify that you are on watchOS 4.0 or later. Go to your iPhone, run the Watch app. Select:  My Watch > General > Software Update. That will display the current version or give you the option to load the latest version.

I got it installed, but I don't see a heart rate on my Apple Watch or iPhone...

Make sure you do not have "Workout Power Saving Mode" activated. Go to your iPhone, tap the Watch App, tap the My Watch toolbar item, tap General, scroll to the "Workout Power Saving Mode" switch and make sure it's off.

You can also do this on your Apple Watch. Tap Settings->General->Workout, make sure "Autopause" and "Power Saving Mode" are both off.

Is there a way to limit what my child can do on their iPhone? I don't want them playing games.

Yes! Try this link: How to use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Or you can simply search the Internet for: iPhone Parental Controls.

I don't see any mention of Android. Does Roland Alert run on Android Phones?

Not yet, but we're working on it. Android support is planned, but not yet available.

My watch dies after 3 or 4 hours. What can I do?

Apple Watch Series 4 has a much better battery than the older Apple Watches. Consider upgrading to a new Series 4 watch. It will not only last much longer but it will run faster.
